I’m an author of adventure books with lesbian main characters, and I grew up watching the adventures of Robin Hood and his merry men in a hundred different forms, all of which I loved! So if you loved the legends and want to see them all played out again with some great women who love women in the lead roles, complete with archery tournaments, heists, spies, secrets, and swordplay, then check out the list!

1. Outlaw by Niamh Murphy (That’s me!)

With a single shot, a legend is born.

Robyn Fitzwarren, daughter to the Baron of Loxely, only wants to support her mother while her father is off on Crusade.

But when she enters an archery tournament in disguise, she incurs the wrath of the Sheriff of Nottingham’s arrogant nephew, Theo.

Now, not only is her own life threatened but the lives of her family as well.

Will she flee from danger?

Or fulfil her destiny, stand up to injustice, and become the fabled outlaw of legend: Robyn Hood?

2. Heart of Sherwood by Edale Lane

When Robyn’s father and brother are killed in the Third Crusade, she is banished from her manor home and branded a traitor by the Sheriff of Nottingham. Disguised as a boy, she joins Little John and the rest of the gang in Sherwood Forest—and soon finds herself their leader.
Queen Eleanor suspects Prince John is up to no good, and colluding with Sir Guy and the Sheriff of Nottingham. To learn more, she engages Maid Marian as a spy—and unwittingly reunites Marian with her old childhood friend, Robyn. Together, the women help the queen acquire the funds needed to free King Richard and help Nottinghamshire—and perhaps fall in love along the way.

3. Nottingham by Anna Burke

Robyn Hood didn’t set out to rob the rich, but in Nottingham, nothing ever goes according to plan….

After a fateful hunting accident sends her on the run from the law, Robyn finds herself deep in the heart of Sherwood Forest. All she really wants to do is provide for her family and stay out of trouble, but when the Sheriff of Nottingham levies the largest tax in the history of England, she’s forced to take matters into her own hands. Relying on the help of her band of merry women and the Sheriff’s intriguing—and off limits—daughter, Marian, Robyn must find a way to pull off the biggest heist Sherwood has ever seen.

With both heart and freedom at stake, just how much will she risk to ensure the safety of the ones she loves?

4. Marian by Ella Lyons

Life changes for Marian Banner when she leaves the countryside for the big city of Nottingham with her father, Sir Erik the Fortunate, and Marian doesn’t think it’s an improvement. She must trade braids and leggings for jewelry and dresses, and hunting and wandering the woods for dancing and a life at court. But into Marian’s dull new world comes someone exciting—a girl named Robin Hood who is as courageous and dedicated as she is small. Robin is determined to become a knight, and she won’t let her gender stand in her way. The two girls quickly become inseparable.

Their friendship changes as time passes and becomes something much more serious—and more magical. When Marian’s father is killed and the king takes an interest in her, she’ll need Robin to prove she’s the hero she always wanted to be.

I’d love to know what you think of the list! Which one are you going to grab first?
